JDSU Fiber Inspection Tools Chosen By Southern Cross Cables

December 2, 2009 – JDSU says that Southern Cross Cables Ltd., a global bandwidth wholesaler that maintains a worldwide network and manages its capacity, has chosen the JDSU HD3-P4 fiber-optic line of hand-held inspection instruments along with FBP Probe Microscopes to improve network performance and reduce inspection time. The units will be used for inspection of fiber in the company’s network that connects Australia, New Zealand, and Hawaii to the Internet backbone in the United States.

“JDSU’s low-cost, inspection and cleaning solution gives us the opportunity to deal with the problem of fiber-optic cleanliness within our network,” said Brian Smith, engineering services manager for Southern Cross Cables. “Having an easy-to-use viewer and effective cleaning equipment will improve the performance of optical connections throughout the network, resulting in improved service to our customers.”

Contaminated or “dirty” fiber causes fiber-optic network problems including performance issues and network downtime. The JDSU HD3-P4, along with the FBP Probe Microscope, are designed to reduce time to inspect male and female connection points for dirty fiber by up to 50 percent over traditional, commonly used inspection practices. This improves productivity by optimizing the technician’s workflow and reducing the amount of time it takes to inspect and connect, JDSU says.
