JDSU Selected For Mobile Backhaul Transition

February 17, 2010 – JDSU announced today that it was recently selected by “a major mobile communications service provider” to support the service provider’s mobile backhaul transition from TDM to Ethernet.

JDSU’s NetComplete Ethernet OAM service assurance offering, which includes tools for Ethernet test, performance, and service-level agreement (SLA) monitoring, was selected to enable the quality deployment of bandwidth-intensive mobile services and applications, including mobile digital video and streaming video, the test vendor says.

The NetComplete Ethernet OAM portfolio, which JDSU says covers the entire Ethernet services deployment lifecycle, is designed to provide the necessary functions to ensure reliability during the mobile service provider’s Ethernet backhaul transition. These functions enable not only the transition to HSPA, HSPA+, and LTE but also the accurate identification and troubleshooting of service-affecting issues, the company adds. The offering includes Ethernet services turn-up testing and validation combined with service performance and SLA monitoring. By monitoring service performance and SLA conformance of the Ethernet backhaul, the mobile service provider can proactively monitor and manage the service and avoid costly service outages, JDSU says.

The NetComplete solution also gives the mobile service provider end-to-end automated service turn-up testing and performance monitoring that is standards-compliant with RFC-2544, IEEE 802.1ag and ITU Y.1731, JDSU concludes.
