Sumitomo Introduces Dual-Heater V-Groove Fusion Splicer

December 15, 2010 – Sumitomo Electric Lightwave has announced the availability of the first fixed V-groove Sumitomo fusion splicer with a dual heating system. The built-in dual heating system of the Type-46 TomCat plus fusion splicer improves splicing efficiency and productivity by 70%, Sumitomo Electric Lightwave asserts.

The splicer’s electronic design, which accommodates a built-in dual heating system and simultaneous operation, streamlines the splicing process and reduces the bottleneck of “heater wait time” by 88%, making it the fastest V-groove splicer on the market, Sumitomo Electric Lightwave says. The TomCat plus features a typical heater cycle time of 40 seconds and splice cycle of 14 seconds.

Passive diameter alignment splicing technology enables the TomCat plus to yield repeatable and consistent low loss results for data center, enterprise network, outside plant, structured cabling, and FTTx applications. Designed for portability, user-friendliness, precision, and speed — without foregoing affordability? the TomCat plus also features automatic heater and splice start functions, a 5.6-inch adjustable monitor, internal memory for up to 2,0000 splicing points, and adjustable battery-saving settings.

The RoHS compliant Type-46 TomCat plus joins the Sumitomo Type-25e TomCat handhelds and the Sumitomo Type-39 FastCat splicer that can be used with the Lynx2 CustomFit Splice-On Connector for on-site customized field terminations.
